Detailed information for the mode of entry to PhD and MTech (Res) of IISc can be obtained here https://iisc.ac.in/admissions/

ICER is a unique department focusing on translational research in the domain of energy, environment, and urban/rural development. The areas of research include functional materials, materials for energy systems, photovoltaics devices, reliability and recyclability, high energy density rechargeable batteries (Li-ion Batteries, post Li-ion batteries), fuel cells, hydrogen energy, membrane, and thermal-based separations including gas separation, desalination, and resource recovery, electrolysis/electrosynthesis (water, CO2),  solar thermal technologies, novel thermodynamic cycles, turbomachinery, thermal storage, corrosion, thermoelectricity, and combustion science and technology, power electronics, smart grids, electrical and electronic systems for energy harvesting and distribution.

All newly admitted students are required to take courses within ICER and in other departments of the Institute as a part of their coursework curriculum. During their student tenure at ICER, the department highly encourages their participation in various academic activities/programs at ICER/IISc and participation at reputed International and National conferences/workshops. The department also encourages students to engage in extra-curricular activities such as sports, cultural, wellness, etc. – further details for these opportunities at IISc can be found here: https://iisc.ac.in/about/student-corner/

ERP – External Registration Program

Candidates from R&D environments in scientific institutions or industries and faculty members of all Engineering and Science Colleges/Universities are welcome to apply for the research programs at ICER through ERP.  The eligibility criteria can be found at: https://iisc.ac.in/admissions/external-registration-programme-ph-d/

Interns and Project Research Staff

ICER also recruits students (with Bachelor’s / Master’s degrees) to carry out research as part of funded projects as Project staff. The details regarding these positions are posted on the ICER website (http://icer.iisc.ac.in/) as and when they are available.

ICER also welcomes highly meritorious students for Summer Fellowships/Assistantships and project dissertations at ICER.  Interested candidates may directly get in touch with the ICER faculty members (http://ICER.iisc.ac.in/).

Post-Doc

The Interdisciplinary Centre for Energy Research (ICER) welcomes post-doctoral candidates (including teachers from colleges/universities) for collaborative research with ICER faculty members funded by the Institute and under all National Programs. Post-doctoral candidates are also encouraged to apply for collaborative research in funded projects. The details regarding these positions are posted on faculty webpages, as and when they are available.
