R & D Projects
As part of the centre’s activities, collaborative projects between various departments at IISc have already been initiated. Major projects have been recently funded (or approved for funding) by DST, MNRE, Indo-US Science and Technology Forum and Karnataka Government. A MoU has been signed between IISc and Homi Bhaba National Institute (HBNI) for carrying our joint research and educational activities in the field of energy. MoUs have also been signed with Solar Energy Centre (SEC), Gurgaon and Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE), Ministry of Power, for collaborative work in Energy. In addition to the energy research activities in the main IISc campus, ICER has also undertaken development of major solar fields in PV as well as CSP areas in the new IISc Challakere campus, along with the establishment of some solar power systems based on the innovative technologies.
Some notable projects under ICER which have already been initiated are:
Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore has been selected to lead a new joint US-India research centre focusing on Solar Energy, named as Solar Energy Research Institute for India and the United States (SERIIUS).
Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore has been selected as one of the two institutions to host the National Centre for Combustion Research and Development (NCCRD) funded by DST. The goals of NCCRD are to address grand challenges in the area of combustion utilizing advances and state-of-the-art facilities.
RESEARCH CENTRE FOR SOLAR POWER IN CHALLAKERE CAMPUS of IISc
This project, supported by Karnataka Government, is for research and development activities to set-up a test and research facility which can and evaluate and test small scale distributed solar power generation systems. Such distributed systems would be ideal for rural and semi-urban areas where grid facility may be absent, or reliable grid power may not be available continuously.
